EU proposes restricting D4, D5, D6 as persistent organic pollutants in Stockholm Conven

The EU Chemicals Agency (ECHA) tried to restrict the use of three cosmetic silicones in the EU and worldwide. It wanted octamethylcyclotetrasiloxane (D4), decamethylcyclopentasiloxane (D5) and dodecamethylcyclohexasiloxane (D6) added to the Stockholm Convention, a global treaty aimed at reducing the use of persistent organic pollutants. ECHA said the silicones
“…do not occur naturally in the environment…and are released to the environment mainly as a result of their presence as intentional constituents or impurities in a very wide variety of consumer products and as residual impurities in silicone polymers.”
